I have a masters in medical law (LLM) from Cardiff Law School, and have undertaken training with Bond Solon so that I can carry out medico-legal examinations and report on patients with eye problems due to assault, MVA and other causes of personal injury.  My medical qualifications are MB ChB DipAvMed MRCP FRCS FRCOphth.

I have been a consultant ophthalmic surgeon since 1997, the first five years of which were in the NHS, and the subsequent time in the independent sector.  I trained as a Registrar and Senior Registrar in ophthalmology in the Tennent Institute of Ophthalmology, University of Glasgow, the Queens Medical Centre, University of Nottingham, and as a Senior Fellow at Moorfields Eye Hospital.  I am a Member of the Royal College of Physicians, and a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons and the Royal College of Ophthalmologists, where I am an examiner.  I am a consultant adviser to the Royal National Institute for the Blind.

I have been providing medico-legal reports since 1997, and have reviewed medico-legal ophthalmology for the publications Health Care Risk Report and Personal Injury Focus.

As a consultant adviser to the UK Civil Aviation Authority, and having written the chapter on eyes and vision in the standard textbook of occupational medicine, "Fitness for Work", I am an authority on occupational ophthalmology.
